DAN’S POV:
“Okay, okay, seeing as so many of you were asking about it, I’ll finally answer. You creepers.” I joked into the camera lens, mindlessly scrolling through my twitter interactions.
“First time you met Phil?” I read aloud, swallowing my fears. I knew this had to happen sometime, and we had both mutually agreed on it.
“The- the first time I went to M- no, not I went. Ugh. Start again.” I closed my eyes, taking a deep breath.
“The first time I met Phil… was back in 2009, on October 19th, as some of you may know. I, erm. We had been talking on Twitter and Skype for a while already, and we both knew we had so much in common, so we decided to meet up there. Plus, he wanted to show me around.” I half-smiled, thinking back to the fond memory.
“Needless to say, it was one of the best days of my life, and hopefully one of the best of Phil’s, too. Despite the fact I was so bloody nervous! Anyway, it was around late evening, after Phil had showed me round all of the landmarks, which looked really cool in the night, and the shops in the town centre where we nearly got kicked out of the apple store for taking too many photos! And we were beginning to get really comfortable with each other- especially as we found out that we had the same favourite coffees in Starbucks!”
I gulped, twiddling my thumbs. I could so easily back out of this now, and postpone it to a different video, like I had previously done with my Draw My Life video. But this time, I was certain.
“Anyway…” I began, my voice turning low, and serious, as opposed to my bright, enthusiastic ‘Danisnotonfire’ persona. “Phil suggested that we should go on the Manchester eye to finish off our day. Which I thought seemed like a good idea.
We had the carriage to ourselves, seeing as it wasn’t a busy night, and I was so nervous with him sitting next to me, for some reason. And I… I knew that I-… liked him. A lot. And that it was a now or never situation. So I kissed him.” I finally blurted out, leaving a deadly silence following after.
“Luckily, he kissed me back, and yes, my heart also did the… flippy over thing, which it had never done before, either.” I chuckled quietly, and began trailing off into the memory, before jolting myself back into reality. “Anyway, that was definitely the best day that Phil and I had ever spent together, and was also the same day we filmed the first Philisnotonfire for you guys, which you loved.”
I bit down on my lip, building up courage. “Anyway, I’m getting side tracked. What I’m trying to tell you, is that… yes. Phil and I are in a relationship, and Phan, or whatever you call it, is real.” I stared deep into the camera. “It always has been, and hopefully always will be.
This-… this is going to be the first, and last time either me and Phil ever address this, and I’m asking you, personally, as our fans, to not pester us about it. We’ve chosen to share this with you, and this will be all that we will be sharing. We won’t be an online couple, either; it’s something that we’d mainly like to keep off-camera, and personal. This is all it will be.”
I took another deep breath, trying to read the script of the video, which I hadn’t kept to at all. “Anyway, I know for the large majority of you, this won’t be a problem, as most of you probably don’t even care about Phan. But all we’ll be asking from you, as “phan shippers”, is just a little bit of privacy and respect, which I know you’ll give us, so thank you. Danisnotonfire and Amazingphil will continue on as normal, as if this had never happened, as we know how many fans just like to watch our videos without worrying about this.”
I finished my sentence with a small half-smile, before reflecting on what I had just done. I couldn’t believe it. I had done what we had been planning, and thinking over and over again for years. All building up to that moment. As I was done filming, and the Phil question was a bonus that I would be putting on my side channel, I switched off the camera, and couldn’t do anything more than just sit on my bed in utter disbelief.
After a few seconds, Phil came into the room with a soft smile, wrapping his arms around me in a tight hug.
“Well done. That was so brave.” He whispered, his face buried into my neck.
“Did you hear it?” I asked, pressing his warm body up against my own.
He nodded. “The whole thing. You did such a good job, Dan. I’m so proud of you.”
I grinned, and kissed the top of his forehead affectionately. “Well, do you think that will start a big enough Phan shitstorm?”
“Probably.” He shrugged, pulling away from the hug slightly. “But they can’t see things like this happen, can they?” He demonstrated by leaning in, tilting his head slightly and kissing me. I reciprocated, my fingers snaking into his dark hair as I deepened the kiss.
“It’s just like the Manchester Eye all over again.” I breathed, gazing deep into his stunningly blue eyes.
